Puppy Power-Up
Advanced Training for Growing Pups
What to Expect
Who is Puppy Power-Up for?
Puppy Power-Up is tailored for puppies under two years old who have completed Puppy Social Hour (PSH). This four week course meets once a week and builds on the foundational skills learned in PSH, with a focus on deepening obedience, addressing adolescent challenges, and managing developmental issues.
Review of PSH Topics:
Revisit and reinforce key skills from Puppy Social Hour to ensure your puppy’s foundational behaviors are solid.
Recall: Enhancing your puppy's response to coming when called by increasing distance and distractions, aiming for a more reliable recall.
Sit and Place: Reinforcing basic positioning commands to improve control and structure. We’ll add more distance and distractions and start using these cues in real-life scenarios.
Hand Targets: Utilizing your hand as a guide to build confidence and communication, particularly beneficial for adolescent dogs navigating fear stages.
Advanced Basic Obedience:
Strengthen your puppy's responsiveness to commands and routines, advancing from basic obedience to achieve more reliable and refined behavior.
Heel: Elevating loose leash walking skills to establish a more controlled and disciplined walking routine.
Down & Settle: Teaching your puppy to relax and stay calm in a “down” position, which improves focus and patience.
Drop It/Take It: Encouraging your puppy to release objects on command and take items only when instructed, enhancing control and impulse management.
Engagement Games: Boosting your puppy’s interaction and focus through activities like Find It, Name that Toy, Follow the Leader, and Relay Race.
Handling Adolescent Challenges:
Address common adolescent issues such as demand behaviors (e.g., barking for attention), reactivity to stimuli or other dogs, and fear-based reactions.
Developmental Issues:
Tackle new challenges that emerge as your puppy matures, including fear stages and behavioral shifts, to support a smooth transition into adulthood.
